Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) is seeking two full-time, temporary, Staff Attorneys to join our Community Outreach Unit for a twelve-month period, starting March 20, 2025, or as soon as possible. Applicants must be fluent in English and at least one other language, with Spanish and Portuguese preferred.

This position offers the flexibility to work from any of NWIRP’s four Washington offices; Granger, Seattle, Tacoma or Wenatchee. The selected attorneys will be expected to travel widely within Washington state, and a valid driver’s license is required to meet this expectation. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.

The selected attorneys will coordinate NWIRP’s outreach and community education efforts, including Know Your Rights and Immigration 101 training, and provide limited services through presentations, legal clinics, and workshops across Washington State. With guidance, they will help centralize NWIRP’s outreach, community education, and pro se initiatives while collaborating closely with the unit’s supervisor, as well as the organization’s deputy directors and directing attorneys. They will also assist in developing and maintaining a system to track statewide needs.

As part of NWIRP’s centralization of outreach, the attorneys will be responsible for coordinating grant-specific outreach requirements and/or opportunities, leading community education initiatives, and providing limited services and pro se assistance to eligible community members.

As with all positions at NWIRP, these attorney roles may shift to focus on specific projects or units to meet organizational needs.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a temporary, full-time bilingual Staff Attorney to work in our Tacoma South Unit (TSU) as part of our Tacoma office. Applicants must be fluent in English and another language, with Spanish preferred, and additional languages are encouraged. The applicant must be able to start the position as soon as possible. The temporary engagement will last 9 months from start, with the possibility of renewal.

As a staff attorney, you will offer direct representation, individual consultations, and community outreach and education to immigrant community members seeking immigration protections before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and immigration courts. You may also handle additional immigration matters, including cases involving individuals in immigration detention.

Applicants must be fluent in English and another language (Spanish is a preferred language in addition to English, but we will consider other bilingual candidates), and additional languages are encouraged. The applicant must be able to start the position as soon as possible. A minimum two-year commitment to the position is expected.

As a staff attorney, you will offer direct representation, individual consultations, and community outreach and education to immigrant community members seeking immigration protections before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and immigration courts. The staff attorney will represent a high-volume workload of detained immigrant clients with complex legal issues in immigration law. The staff attorney may also be assigned work relating to other immigration matters.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a full-time Temporary Staff Attorney to work in the Removal Defense Unit as part of our Seattle office for a period of two years, beginning on March 12, 2025, or as soon as possible. Applicants must be fluent in English and at least one other language.

As a staff attorney fellow funded by Service Employees International Union-Local 775, you will offer consultation and brief legal services to union staff, and make referrals internally and to pro bono attorneys. You will also provide legal as well as Know Your Rights workshops to union membership and provide consultation as necessary.

Interns will have direct exposure to a fast-paced work environment centered on immigration law and advocacy. The internship will last four months and requires a commitment of 20-25 hours per week between JuneAugust 2025.

Work for this internship will occur on-site at our offices located in North Tacoma, although hybrid arrangements involving some work-from-home are also considered. Additional languages spoken, especially Spanish, are desirable but not a requirement for all focus areas.

Internships are unpaid, but NWIRP will work with applicants to secure outside funding or academic credit when possible and if applicable.

At Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP), we’re looking to fill Intake Coordinator positions in our Seattle and Tacoma offices with JV/AmeriCorps members. The service dates for these positions are August 5, 2025, to July 31, 2026.

We are looking to fill the Legal Coordinator roles within our Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Family Services (FSU), Children and Youth Advocacy Program (CYAP), and Asylum units in the Seattle office, as well as our Tacoma and South Unit in the Tacoma office (unit descriptions are provided towards the end of the posting).

Intake coordinators at NWIRP play an important role in providing essential legal services to our community, including asylum seekers, individuals applying for family-based visas, vulnerable youth, and those facing urgent challenges or seeking protection through various immigration programs. Key responsibilities include conducting client intakes, screening for eligibility, coordinating legal processes, and collaborating with attorneys to prepare cases. Fluency in English and another language, preferably Spanish, is required for most units. Additional languages are welcome.
